Vaccination as a Major Death Stopper in Cameroon

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in December 2019, the world at large and Cameroon in particular have witnessed an improvement on mortality rates since its maiden outbreak.

Cameroon has so far recorded 65,998 positive cases of COVID19 and 991 deaths according to the World Health Organisation. With this as a call for concern, the creation of the vaccine offered Cameroon and the rest of the world a renewed platform to combat the pandemic and achieve the ultimate call for collective immunity.

This measure coming to bolster the already recurrent call to respect proper personal hygiene, respect social distancing and ultimately the obligatory usage of face masks. Cameroon in an attempt to restrain the pandemic and obtain collective immunity against it, received 200,000 doses of the SINOPHARM vaccine from the Chinese government and 391,200 doses of ASTRAZENECA COVID vaccine from the United states each following a strict 2 phase immunization protocol l(two dosage administration), vaccination campaigns will be run twice on every individual to ensure effective immunization against the Covid 19 strains.

Administration of the vaccine within the national perimeter has been tagged with Top priority recipients they include; Persons aged 55 and above; Front line health workers, health workers aged 18 and above; Persons suffering from hypertension, Diabetes etc

Government officials

In the midst of the 1st dose 5 days campaign which began on Monday 26th of April 2021 to end on 2nd May 2021, prioritised persons are hereby encouraged to get vaccinated at their various established vaccination posts, dispensed nationwide.

These centers will be posted in administrative places, hospitals and pharmacies in a bid to help combat severe cases of the Corona virus.

Whilst we all are called upon to participate in this turning point in the fight against the pandemic, there are some notable exceptions as far as administering doses go.

They include; pregnant women, Persons suffering from allergies, Persons presenting signs and symptoms of Covid-19, Persons under the age of 18, After administration of the vaccines to some health personnel, some adverse effects were detected which included; headache, nausea, fever and inject side pain which could be normal with any other drug .

We must note that

Individuals are allowed to choose which vaccine to be vaccinated with

The vaccine is not a guarantee that we will not contract the disease anymore so we should not stop the preventive measures. That is, wash our hands with running water and soap or sanitize your hands frequently, wear our face masks in public places or gatherings and also keep social distancing even when you have been administered the vaccine .
