The foundation called “The Achidi Achu Foundation was launched on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Yaoundé, in an event that brought together guests across the country to once more honour the memory of the fallen states man who passed away on May 4, 2021.

With his wife, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, who doubles as the General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) as chair person, the aim of the foundation is to continue promoting the humanitarian works this fallen “hero” valued throughout his life time. “The Achidi Achu Foundation will represent the legacy and continue the good works of the former Prime Minister”, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, Chairperson of the foundation said. ”We want to thank God for the life of our hero Simon Achidi Achu and we want to make sure that he is not forgotten. We have the duty to ensure his legacy lives on,” Mrs Judith Yah Sunday Achidi added. “This foundation is fruit of a series of brainstorming session among family members who worked in synergy”, Jude Achu, Vice Chairperson of the foundation said during the launching. “The vision of Pa has always been that of bringing people together”, he continued.

Among Achiudi Achu’s legacy was his love for agriculture and support for the poor, which the foundation will incarnate. Simon Achidi Achu is credited to have provided scholarships to thousands of children across the board, reason why the foundation announced it will be pursuing this legacy of his by ensuring children of all ages go to school especially in rural communities. It will also provide assistance and empower the vulnerable. It also has as objective to fight against poverty and rural exodus through agriculture; promote culture and traditional values, peace, equity and justice; romote and encourage excellence in Education through small scholarship schemes and enhance social development.

The foundation will also honour the memory of Simon Achidi Achu as a senior states man who worked tirelessly for peace, the Chairperson, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi said. “The foundation will materialise all the things he did and what he was unable to do,” Philemon Yang added.

The launching of the foundation took place simultaneously with the memorial service of the fallen statesman. The launch of the foundation was thus another opportunity for guests to once again pay respects to the late Prime Minister.

Former Prime Ministers, Members of government, members of the two houses of parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional authorities as well as other personalities all gathered at the residence of the former PM in Yaoundé to honour his memory. “Simon Achidi Achu constantly made efforts to succeed and he always had the right attitude. I praise him for making great efforts all the time and putting up the right attitude whenever a situation arose,” Prime Minister Emeritus Philemon Yang said.

Simon Achidi Achu has remained famous in the political history of Cameroon with his cult expressions such as: “Politics na njangi”; “You scratch my back, I scratch your back” (literally “You scratch my back, I scratch yours”). The former Prime Minister (1992-1996) died on May 04, 2021 in the United States. He left without seeing peace reign again in the North-West (his region of origin) and South-West regions.

Pa Achidi Achu loved humanity to an extraordinary length, his support to the needy, physically challenged both morally and financially was legendary, his love for farming was at times above human comprehension, and thus a point for healthy reflection”, Jude explained in his speech.

The foundation is structured into three namely; The Executive, Board of Trustees and Advisers. With The Achidi Achu Foundation, the legend and his works will live on, and help and leadership will be at the service of the needy.
