S.W R. Health Open Days 2023 : Healths services and specialities presented to populations

A public health fair to show case the health sector in the southwest region has taken place in Buea. The fair which held at the independence square was organized by the southwest regional delegation of public health.

The main objective of the health open days was to bring together health providers and members of the community for the population to be abreast with services and specialties being offered by the different hospitals in the region. The gathering brought together stakeholders of the health sector. According to the S.W delegate of public health, the health fair seeks to introduce the universal health coverage plan which is in its first phase. Dr. Eko Eko Filbert noted that the regional fund for health promotion and the delegation of public health are the key implementing partners at the level of the SWR. So far, all the soldiers of health have work tirelessly in reviewing the health data of the region. Dr. Eko Eko decry the fact that the people of the southwest do not know the services offered at hospitals and the people lack confidence of the health personnel. The high rate of morbidity and mortality in the southwest region has been blamed on the ignorance of the people of the region who do not know the specialist and specialties of the health personnel Dr. Eko Eko added.

Speaking during the health fair, the administrator of the Regional Fund for health promotion of the Southwest Ngondo Wendi Musenja said that, her unit has a very important role to play when it comes to the implementation of universal health coverage, that of carrying out verification and validation at the level of health facilities. This comes after the health facilities have done their verifications. The regional fund for health promotion will therefore be expected to validate the verifications and make them ready for payments after the validation On the different health stands were screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, eye care, breast and cervical cancer, HIV and many more. The event also saw the donation of some items to some internally displaced persons and vulnerable population of the region who converged on Bongo square for the health open days. The stakeholders of health of the Southwest Region were meeting under the theme “Your health our main priority: What you can benefit in the context of universal health coverage”.

For the sake of continuity, public health officials in the SWR hope that after this first edition of the health open days, an evaluation will be done to see how to embark on the second edition and to make it more successful than the debut edition. On December 31, 2017, the president of the Republic His Excellency president Paul Biya during his end of year address to the nation, instructed governments to progressively put strategies to provide quality health to the population under the umbrella of universal health coverage. An instruction that has left Cameroon’s ministry of public health working relentlessly to make the vision of the head of state come true.
