As part of infrastructural activities put in place by the government of Cameroon ahead of the biggest African continental football jamboree, Dr. Manouda Malachie, alongside the governor of the Centre Region, Naserri Paul Bea on Tuesday September 14, visited the Yaoundé Emergency Center and the Yaoundé Central Hospital. The aim of their visit was to evaluate how equipped these centers are in terms of material and human resources few most to the start of the AFCON.

‘’Our visit this morning is more of an observational visit, a visit of the axes that will have to take care of patients within the framework of the African Cup of Nations. We started with the emergency units. We have visited the operation units, the medical imaging…. In fact, these services will surely be in high demand during the competition,’’ the minister explained.

After examining the various health amenities present in these centers, the minister disclosed that health wise, Cameroon (Yaoundé in particular) is ready to host the 2021 AFCON scheduled for January 9 to February 6 2022.

“We are satisfied with what we have seen today. All the equipment are in place, and we can say that we are ready for the 2022 AFCON, though they are still some little touches to be made. Human resources need to be reinforced in terms of capacity, and quantity. We are dealing with the regulation of human resources at this moment, but we think that even if the African Cup of Nations is to be played tomorrow, then we are ready at our level.’’

The minister visited mainly the echography unit, radiology service and medical imaging where the major equipment inspected here was the scanner, the Cardiovascular unit, the intensive care unit, and the Operation Unit.

After the visit of these two health centers, the minister will proceed with the visiting of other health units like the Yaoundé Referral Hospital and the Yaoundé Gynaecho Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital. His first tour, which has begun in the Center Region will end on Friday, September 17, 2021. He will continue his expedition in other towns where the AFCON will be played. These towns include mainly Douala, Limbe-Buea, Bafoussam, Garoua.

According to the minister, the drawbacks register in these medical facilities will be immediately looked into before the beginning of the AFCON.
